1937 Bugatti 57C Van Vooren Cabriolet Lot 193 | Offered without Reserve | Bank Seized History as described in the 2018 American Bugatti Register and Data Book: “The rolling chassis 57742 was produced in November 1938 with engine 516. In January 1939, a red factory Berline body with cuir havane interior was made. On May 31, 1939 the car was ordered by the garage Carnot for the first owner Saint Martin. The order went via Bugatti agent Groslambert in Besancon, close to the Swiss border and he paid the strange price of Frs. 91,007.25 for the car. Usually such prices were the result of conversions from foreign currencies, so the owner may have paid in Swiss currency. In the Commandes book, the word Stelvio was added, the meaning of which is not known. In the sixties the car was bought by Jean Serre with the derelict Galibier body. Later, he bought the Vanvooren body, ex-57430 from Hans Weber Henning. Chassis 57430 was one of the so-called ‘Prince Napolean’ cars as he was the first owner. Serre first sold the rolling chassis and later the body to Charles Bronson who united them. A compressor was also added; it seems the frame had a factory made indentation so it was fit without modification. It languished until 2005 when it was shown at the Techno Classica in Germany by Tony Paalman, with his then-firm ‘Car Discoveries.’ The car was sold to Howard Fafard in Framingham, Massachusetts. It was totally restored by Competition Motors, which assumed ownership after it was completed. It was shown at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach on August 19, 2012 and sold to the present owner in 2016 who has chosen to remain anonymous.”

This beautiful car was seized from its most recent owner by his lending institution and is now selling without reserve!
