1956 Jaguar XK140 MC DHC | Own a Piece of History! Lot 191

The 1956 Jaguar XK140 Pioneer, believed to be permanently lost to the sands of time by racing enthusiasts and automotive historians alike, was found unaltered, sitting in a garage for nearly three decades. Adored and driven by Hall of Fame inductee, Denise McCluggage, who was an extraordinary woman known for her multiple legendary talents (including her Auto Journalism and Racecar Driving), most notably, this Jag was discovered a couple of years after her passing at the age of 88. Originally gifted to McCluggage by a celebrated sportsman, her race team sponsor, and one of the most pivotal figures in postwar sports car racing, Briggs Cunningham, “Lady Leadfoot” (affectionately named by Motorsports friends and rivals alike) was the car that started everything for McCluggage and inspired her to race. At that time both racing and journalism were taboo for women, and Denise was beyond her time in that respect, breaking down gender barriers on multiple levels. Though she raced with many cars throughout her career and was riddled with accolades and noteworthy achievements, there was a fondness she held in her heart for this beautiful ’56 Jag. Chassis # S818207.
