Hand, foot and mouth disease

Viral upper respiratory tract infection diagnosed. Pt also with hand foot and mouth disease. Mother educated and reassured. I advised the parent that antibiotics are neither indicated nor likely to be helpful. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin/Advil (ibuprofen) may be given for fever or discomfort and supportive care. Offer fluids to promote adequate hydration. Humidifier may help with nasal congestion. RTC/ER prn increased WOB, fever > 5 days, signs of dehydration or for parental questions or concerns.

Subjective:

HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: 16mo male with congestion, runny nose, cough and eye discharge. Also pulling at right ear. No fever. No SOB or increased WOB, But pt is mouth breathing due to nasal congestion.
